“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”
Luke 22:19 (KJV)
This was a Passover meal, the night Israel remembered being rescued from slavery in Egypt. Jesus took that familiar meal and gave it a new meaning: the bread was His body, the cup was a new covenant in His blood. He was telling them what the next day would cost Him before any of them understood it.
He also knew who was at the table. Judas would betray Him that night. Peter would deny Him before morning. The rest would scatter. He gave thanks and fed them anyway.
“This do in remembrance of me.” He asked to be remembered, which is exactly what this piece is for.
